Research project: TUNNELING

Research project: TUNNELING

The purpose of this Research Project was the development of a monitoring system of strains across the perimeter of transversal cross sections of the permanent lining of tunnels. The strain measurement was carried out using fiber optic sensors installed on eight critical positions of the inner and outer transversal reinforcing steel bars.

The specific task of our company was to prepare the theoretical methodology and corresponding software for the real time assessment of the structural condition of the lining, based on the measured strains, which contains the estimation of the actual values of the external soil and water pressures imposed in critical cross sections, the corresponding values of the safety factors and the degree of the global stability.
